Khmer Rouge

My second exploration is Khmer Rouge which I was really interesting and I want to learn about it because it one of the sad Cambodia history. In this exploration we have a lot of trip to explore the real world and to learn know thing beside learning in class. In class we have a lot of activities that connect to the Khmer Rouge and it was a very sad sad story. We went to Siem Reap, Odor Mean Chey, and other places in Cambodia. In Siem Reap we went to the war museum, Odor Mean Chey we went to Dangrek mountain to see Tamok house, and they place in Phnom Penh we watch the documentary, listen to the speaker and we also went to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (first this place is the school and the Khmer Rouge turn this place to kill people and no one going to survive if the go their, their only 7 surviver).

Kampot Writer/Reader Festival

This is such a great opportunity for me to go to Kampot Reader & Writer Festival. I met a lot of different people and learned many things from them. The main purpose of this event is to learn from many people as possible.

Khmer Rouge (Speaker)

Khmer Rouge Exploration we went to listen to the publish speaker at NIE. This one man talking the about why foreigner need care and didn’t help Cambodia during Khmer Rouge? He said because the foreigner didn’t believe it even though the news about it they don’t want to see. They never believe it even though some people that refugee from Cambodia to Thailand and they talk about it no one believe. That why they not help. After Khmer Rouge done and some foreigners know about it they felt so regret that they not help Cambodian during Khmer Rouge.

Beach Clean Up

We all is the first Cambodian to have an event which is beach clean up that happened the same day people in the world did. This event we divide into teams of 3 people, and each team have different rubbish to pick for my team, we got to pick the foam, spoons, fork and cup.

Math- Khanacademy

In math we not just siting and learning from the book in class but we also have a website to learn from the internet. One of the website that we learn and very useful website is called Khanacademy (Khanacademy.org). Now we are learning Geometry which is a fun subject.

Extension- Performance

For this new year we have more students coming in which is our junior students. So one of my friend and I decide to work on extension for the junior which is performance. The first thing we do let them watch other people movie so they got the idea, after that I taught them how to write the screenplay, and they prepare everything and get ready for the performance (find resources they need, pick the character…) my friend and I just guide them a little bit. This is the first time for them but they done an excellent job and here are their script they write by their own.

This short performance is about education of rubbish.

Scene 1

DARA call to NIKA

Dara
Hello, Nika

Nika
Hi, Dara

Dara
What are you doing?

Nika
I’m reading my book.

Dara
No! The book is not interesting. Do you want to go for a walk at the park with me?

Nika
Ok! Sure, I will go with you.

Dara
Ok! I’m going to pick at your house.

Scene 2

Dara drive the Moto to Nika house. Four minutes later Dara arrived at Nika house and shout.

Dara
Nika, Nika, are you ready yet?

Nika
Wait! I need to finish my laundry.

Dara
Okay, do it quickly I’m waiting.

Scene 3

Nika finished her laundry. She walks out of the house and go to the park with Dara. When they arrived Dara takes the moto to park, then they go to buy the banana.

Dara
How much does one banana cost?

Seller
It cost 5000

Dara
Okay, I will buy five of them.

Seller
Here your banana

Dara
Okay thank you.

Nika
Let’s go Dara, I want to go to the museum.

Dara
Ummm, okay, I think we should walk because it near.
Scene 4

While they are walking Dara takes the banana and share one with Nika. Dara eat it and throw it along the road. Nika doesn’t see it and she slip on the banana peel and fall down.

Nika
Ow, Dara help me!

Dara
What happen Nika?

Nika
Look your banana peel, are you the one who throw it?

Dara
Ooops, Yes okay let me help you.

Nika
Next time please don’t throw it on the road people may get hurt.

Dara
Okay, next time, I will not throw it again.

Scene 5

When they arrived the museum Dara and Nika, felt hungry. Then they go to buy some snack.

Dara
I will buy the Fisho. How much does it cost?

Snack Seller
It cost 4500 a pecket.

Dara
Okay, I will buy two of them.

Nika
Come on, Dara I need to go.

Scene 6
They go into the museum and eat the Fisho.
When they finish eating the Fisho Nika put the waste in the bin bit Dara just throw it. A cleaner is cleaning the rubbish.

Cleaner
Sir! Can you pick it up and throw it properly.

Dara
You are the cleaner and you need to clean it.
Cleaner
I am just trying to tell you.

Dara
Whatever.

When they already walk around the museum. They walk back to the park Dara have some cookie in his bag. He share one of them to Nika. When they finished eating it Nika properly throw it in the rubbish bin and Nika walks faster. Nika are disappointed at Dara the policed office come.

Police officer
You throw rubbish everywhere this is against the rule.

Dara
So what?

Police officer
I need you to pay me 10000.

Dara
Oh no! Here.

When they reached the park Dara throw the rubbish properly in the rubbish bin.

Nika
Why you throw it in rubbish bin? Why don’t you throw it everywhere?

Dara
Not anymore! The police just take my money. I’ve learn a great lesson.

Then they go back home happily.

Khmer Rouge News

This is a news my friend and I wrote about what we learn during Khmer Rouge time! Please enjoya reading it.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia April,17,1975 many Cambodians were forced to move out of Phnom Penh city do agricultural work at the countryside.The Khmer Rouge lies that there will be no trucks bringing food into Phnom Penh city. They also told people that America was going to bomb Phnom Penh so, everyone were evacuated.

On the same date above the Khmer Rouge soldiers were entering Phnom Penh. People were “waving white cloths and white shirts” to welcome the Khmer Rouge. They thought that Cambodia was about to be free but, the
Khmer Rouge took their belongings and people who refused would be killed or taken away. There was no exception to the evacuation even if people were sick, injured, old or pregnant so Phnom Penh was empty and became a “ghost city” after they had force 2 million people out of the city. Only administrative officer, soldier and factories workers are left in the city and the only shop open is the Central market.

A few days after the evacuation, the Khmer Rouge shows had another propaganda of having a ceremony “to pay homage” to those people who died during the war. In Beijing there are more than 10, 000 people and leaders celebrate r the victory over America. The Prince Norodom Sihanouk didn’t attend. He was with his mom, queen Sisowath Kossamak Neary Roth Vathana who was dead in Beijing. The prince had been in Beijing since 1970. The Chinese government had give him a lot of support both emotional and political even a comfortable villa to live in.

Engineering

In engineering class we have a lot of assignment and we try to interview our teacher about morning ritual then found the problem they have in there morning ritual, after that we try to find the solution for them. After that we have a design challenge, we design our product. Then we try to draw our design. Then we find the best idea for our product and do the concept after that we try to make the prototype.

LGBT Inspiration

In our school we have a great opportunity because we have one young man named Marian. He is one of the change agent he tries to tell people that everyone have the same rights. He tries his best to tell the government that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisextual and trangender) are normal also everyone have the same rights. He try to tell the government because some country they not allow to have LGBT, if the did it must be close in the closet, if their government knows that they might talk them to the jail or kill them, so it not really fair to LGBT. He really opportunist because every time it have an event about LGBT or human right and he tried his best to join and met many different people around the world. This really important for us as a teenager to understand about it because we need to understand and need to know how they feel if we said something bad or do the shock face when we see LGBT people, so they might feel really bad about it.

Filming Independent Discovery

My passion is Film. So I decide with my partner Kimseng and Neang to continue filming this year. We have our own independent discovery which is filming. Our filming group work really hard to make our movie. First we discuss with each other to find our the ideas what our movie going to look like. Then we end up with 3 ideas so we divide each person choose to write the script in each idea. For my script is about the students in the school. Here’s my script that I have wrote and some editing from my team. Also I need to translate into Khmer because the movie going to be speak in khmer.

The girl named (SUSA) live in the poor family. She makes a sad face when she sees other family, they have a lot of money and goes to different places.

SUSA
Why I’m born in the poor family? Why my life never fun like other?
She’s walking to school and she have two best friends named MALA and NICA.

ហេតុអីបានជាខ្ញុំកើតជាកូនអ្នកក្រចឹង? ហេតុអីបានជាជីវិតរបស់ខ្ញុំមិនដែលសប្យាយដូចគេ?

When they at the school.

MALA
How are you today guy?
អ្នកទាំងពីរសុខសប្បាយអត់ង៉ៃនេះ?

SUSA
I’m great! But I just feel bad of myself all the time.
គ្នាសុខសប្បាយតាស! តែគ្នាតែងតែមានអារម្មណ៍មិនល្អចំពោះខ្លួនឯងរហូតហ្នឹង។

NICA
I’m feeling worse today!
ចំពោះញុំវិញមានអារម្មណ៍មិនល្អសោះង៉ៃហ្នឹង។

MALA
Why?
ហេតុអី?

NICA
This morning the gecco just fall on my head. I scream and shout. It was the worse day.
កាលពីព្រឹកមិញតុកកែធ្លាក់លើក្យាលញុំ ហើយគ្នាភ័យចង់ងាប់ ស្រែកផងអីផង។

SUSA
Ok, stop talking about all of those things, let go to class.
បានហើយៗ ទៅ ឈប់និយាយពីរឿងមិនល្អទៀតទៅ តោះទៅថ្នាក់រៀន!

SUSA looks at the time…..

SUSA
Hey guys, WEEE’RE LATE, quick run!!!!!!!!!
ហេ!​ គ្នាយើងឲ្យលឿនមក ដល់ម៉ោងហើយ លឿនៗ!

All three of them run very fast into the classroom.

TEACHER
Why, are you guy late?
ហេតុអីបានរៀនយឺតចឹង?

SUSA, NICA, MALA
Sorry, teacher…
សូមទោស អ្នកគ្រូ

TEACHER
All of you go to stand out side…. GO
បីនាក់ហ្នឹងទៅឈរខាងក្រៅ កន្លះម៉ោងទៅ!

All three of them go to stand outside of the class, then have have three boys (PISETH, SOVAN, YUTH) and in that school look strenth, most of the boy looks at SUSA. SUSA doesn’t say anythings.

PISETH
Oh why, you guy standing?
អ!​ ហេតុអី បានអ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នាឈរ

SOVAN
Come to school late?
មករៀនយឺតមែន?

NICA nodded.

YUTH
May, we join too?
ពួកញុំសូមចូលរួមផងបានអត់?

NICA and MALA said at the same time. YES IF YOU WANT TOO!​ បានតាសបើចង់!

SUSA just do normal not react anything because she so shy.

PISETH
SUSA should say something. Should we stand with you?
ស៊ូសាគួរតែនិយាយអីខ្លះទៅ។ តើពួកខ្ញុំចូលរួមផងបានអត់?

SUSA
Yes!
ចាសបាន។

While they standing two girl walk through, both of them using a very nice phone and so fancy.

SUSA really want that and her face turn very sad, and she put her head down.

At the evening she comes back home.

MOM
Oh you come back? Why you look so sad?
អ!​ កូនមកវិញហើយអរ!​ កូនអត់កើតអីណាអី? មើលទៅដូចជាអត់សប្បាយចិត្តសោះ?

SUSA doesn’t answer anything.

MOM
What happened to you?
កូនអត់អីណាអី?

SUSA
Why am born in the poor family? (she yell)
ហេតុអីបានជាខ្ញុំកើតមកជាកូនអ្នកក្រអញ្ចឹង?

MOM
I’m really sorry, Susa everyday I’ll try my best to find money.
ឲ្យម៉ែសុំទោសផង ស៊ូសាកូនដឹងទេថារាល់ថ្ងៃម៉ាក់ខំប្រឹងរកលុយណាស់ដើម្បីកូន។

SUSA
You don’t have to say anything!!
ម៉ែមិនបាច់និយាយអីទេ!

Susa runs to sit to one place. Her mom feel really bad. Mom goes to cook rice. Susa walks slowly to find the money.

SUSA (she said to herself)
Sorry mom but this is the only choice that I have to do. I know that I’m not a good person.
សូមទោសម៉ែ ប៉ុន្តែនេះគឺជាជម្រើសដែលកូនត្រូវធ្វើ។​ កូនដឹងថាកូនមិនមែនជាកូនល្អសម្រាប់ម៉ាក់ទេ។

While she’s finding the money, her mom arrive.

MOM
What are you doing SUSA? Stop it! Why you do like this? I ask you why? If you need something just tell me I’ll will buy for you!
កំពុងធ្វើអីហ្នឹងស៊ូសា?​ ឈប់ភ្លាម! ហេតុអីបានជាកូនធើចឹង? ម៉ែសួរថាហេតុអី? បើត្រូវការអីប្រាប់
ម៉ែទៅ ម៉ែនឺងទិញឲ្យ។

SUSA (started to cry)
You know this is the only choice that I like, I don’t know why my life is so bad that born in the poor family like this. I saw other people using phone I really want it. I’m so scared to ask you! I don’t want to do it.
ម៉ែដឹងអត់ ខ្ញុំតែងតែគិតហេតុអីបានជាញុំវាអាក្រក់មិនល្អ ដែលខ្ញុំកើតជាត្រកូលកូនអ្នកក្រ។ ញុំឃើញគេប្រើទូរស័ព្ទល្អៗ ញុំពីតជាចង់បានណាស់តែមិនដឹងធើម៉េច ខ្ញុំមិនហ៊ានសូមម៉ែនោះទេ ហើយខ្ញុំក៏មិនចង់លួចលុយម៉ែដែរ​។

SUSA goes and hug her mom.

SUSA
Thanks mom. I love you.

MOM
តែកូនត្រូវតែខំប្រឹងរៀន។

SUSA
ចាសម៉ែ!

An 30 minutes ago. Her mom goes to take all of the money that she has in her pillow.

MOM
I have nothing left. But I have to do it for my kid to be happy, if she happy i’m happy too.
ពេលនេះខ្ញុំគ្មានលុយទេ ប៉ុន្តែខ្ញុំត្រូវធ្វើដើម្បីកូនរបស់ខ្ញុំ បើគេចិិត្តខ្ញុំក៏សប្បាយចិត្តដែរ។

In the morning her mom sell one piece of the land and goes to buy the phone for her.
When SUSA come back from school her mom.

MOM
Here the phone for you!
នេះកូនទូរស័ព្ទដែលម៉ែទិញឲ្យ។
SUSA is so happy.

SUSA
Thank you mom!
អរគុណម៉ែ។

Susa can’t stop smiling, and she can’t sleep that night.

All of them come to school normally but, SUSA not really know how to use phone at all.

MALA
Hello,
អាឡូ

PISETH
Hi, are you MALA?
អាឡូ ម៉ាឡ៉ាមែន?

MALA
Yes, I am.
ចាស ញុំម៉ាឡ៉ា

PISETH
I would like to invite you to the party on Wednesday.
ញុំពិសិដ្ធចង់បបួលម៉ាឡ៉ាមកជុបលៀងផ្ចះញុំម្តងបានអត់?

MALA
Really?
មែន?

PISETH
And also your other two friends. Is it okay?
ហើយមិត្តភក្តិរបស់ម៉ាឡ៉ាពីរនាក់ទៀតផង។ បានអត់?

MALA
Yes I’ll talk to them, but I think NICA will go, but if SUSA I’m not 100% sure, because she doesn’t want to go to the party, especially going with boys.

MALA

គ្នាមានរឿងមួយចង់ប្រាប់។

SUSA
What’s are the thing that you going to tell me?
មានរឿងអី?

MALA
Some of our friends want to invite us to the party.
មិត្តភក្តិយើងម្នាក់ចង់ឲ្យយើងចូលរួមពីធីជុបលៀង​ ឯងទៅអត់?

SUSA
Who is that?
ពីណាគេ?

MALA
Umm, the group of the boy, that we saw them last time.
ប្រុសៗ! មួយក្រុមដែលយើងជួបង៉ៃមុន!

SUSA
Really? ummm I think it not really good idea to go out with them.
មែន? Ummm គ្នាគិតថាយើងមិនគួរទៅនោះទេ។

MALA
It okay, SUSA just go, they really want us to join that party.
អត់អីទេស៊ូសាទៅ ទៅ។ គេចង់ឲ្យយើងចូលរួមណាស់។

SUSA
I saw them look at me in the strange way.
ញុំឃើញពួកមើលញុំរហូត។

MALA
It okay because you look so beautiful that’s why. Pity them they really want us to join.

SUSA
Oh no, let me think first. I’m not sure, and I need to ask my mom. Tomorrow I’ll tell you. Okay?

MALA

After that SUSA goes to ask her mom.

SUSA
Ummmm, can I go to the party at my friend house?
Ummm តើកូនអាចទៅជុបលៀងជាមួយមិត្តភកិ្តបានអត់?

MOM
Yes!

SUSA
What if it a boy?
ចុះបើពួកគេជាប្រុស?

MOM
A boy. No, you can’t!
ប្រុសអត់ឲ្្យទៅទេ។

SUSA
But mom, have some of my friends go too, and they really want me to go.
ប៉ុន្តែម៉ែមិត្តភក្តិញុំមួយចំនួនទៅដែរហ្នឹង ហើយពួកគេចង់ឲ្យកូនទៅណាស់។

MOM
Okay, but you have to becareful.
បាន​ តែត្រូវតែប្រុងប្រយ័ត្ន។

SUSA
Yes mom thanks.
ចាសម៉ែ

NICA and MALA go to ask SUSA, if she agrees with it.

NICA
Hey, what is your decision?
អេ គិតម៉េចដែរ?

MALA
Are you agree?
ទៅអត់?

SUSA
Yes, but i’m really afraid because I never done something like that before.
ទៅតាស តែគ្នាខ្លាចដល់ហើយព្រោះញុំអត់ដែលទៅជុបលៀងអញ្ចឹងផង។

NICA
It okay don’t worries about it, they are our friends.
អត់អីទេកុំភ័យ ពួកគេមិត្តភក្តិយើងតាស។

SUSA
Okay..
Okay

SUSA dressed herself so nice to go to the party.
MALA and NICA come and pick her up.

When they arrive.
PISETH, SOVAN and YUTH come over

Hello, girls
សួស្តី ស្រីៗ!

MALA, NICA
Hi
សួស្តីចាស!

PISETH
ញុំរីករាយណាស់ដែលអ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នាចូលរួម។

YUTH
មែនហើយ។

SUSA doesn’t say anything and she was looking around and she’s so scared.

SOVAN
How are you?
សុខសប្បាយអត់អ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នា?

MALA
I’m good
សុខតាស

NICA
I’m fine thanks
សុខដូចគ្នា! ចុះអ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នាវិញ?

SOVANN

YUTH

MALA

What about SUSA doesn’t heard anything from you?

SUSA is so shock and turn to look at their face, and just smile.

PISETH
Okay, all of you can have a sit.
អ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នាអង្គុយលេងសិនទៅ ព្រោះឈរយូរហើយ។

NICA
Okay thank you.
Okay អគុណច្រើនហើយ។

MALA
Okay, let’s go SUSA

SUSA is so shy.
All of those three boys go to take some drink for them.
All of the boy shows the three girl all of the thing in phone, which is really attractive to SUSA.

NICA
អរគុណបងៗទាំងអស់គ្នាច្រើនមែនទែនដែលឲ្យពួកខ្ញុំចូលរួម!

PISETH
បាទមិនអីទេ។

MALA
ដូចច្នេះពួកខ្ញុំសូមលាសិនហើយ ព្រោះយប់ណាស់ហើយ។

SOVANN
សុខសប្បាយតាមផ្លូវណា។

All of them say goodbye.

When arrive home SUSA, now always use phone. Until she falls asleep.
At school she not really focus in class at all, when break time she always use phone.
MALA and NICA come to SUSA

MALA
Hey, why today i’m always saw you played phone?
ហេ ម៉េចង៉ៃហ្នឹង គ្នាឃើញឯងលេងទូរស័ព្ទរហូតចឹង?

NICA
Don’t play it too much it will effect to your learning. Okay?
កុំលេងច្រើនពេក វាអាចប៉ះពាល់ដល់ការសិក្សាបានណា។

MALA
Hey come and play with us, Okay?
មកលេងជាមួយពួកយើងវិញតោះ។

SUSA
Hey don’t worried about me, I don’t want to play with of those things. Go away, goooo!
នែកុំខ្វល់ពីញុំអី ញុុំអត់លេងជាមួយនាក់ទាំងពីរហេ ទៅណា​ទៅទៅ

Both of them go, with un-happy face.

SUSA
So annoying!
រំខានមែន។

Even though they walk back to school she also use phone.

When arrive home, she’s not eat rice, she just play with her phone.

MOM
SUSA, come and eat rice.
ស៊ូសា មកញុំបាយកូន។

SUSA
No mom I’m not hungry at all you can eat first.
អត់ទេម៉ែកូនអត់ឃ្លានទេ ញាុំមុនទៅ។

At night she doesn’t eat anything, and not study at night.

MOM
SUSA, do your homework, and study, you not allow to play with your phone all the time like this. You need to think about your future too.
ស៊ូសាកុំលេងអាទូរស័ព្ទហ្នឹងច្រើនពេក រៀនខ្លះទៅ បើនៅតែអញ្ចឹងអនាគតមិនដឹងទៅជាយ៉ាងណាអេ។

SUSA
Okay enough! Stop telling me I don’t care.

SUSA

SUSA push her mom, then her mom head hit with the table and die.

SUSA
MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m sorry mom!, I didn’t mean to do like that to you. MOM!

SUSA was yelling so loud and crying!

SUSA
Now I’m just nothing.

SUSA is holding her phone.

SUSA
Because of you i’m become like this!!!!

SUSA throw her phone away.
